Physical mail is allowed. All mail is opened and inspected before it is delivered to the resident.

Address mail correctly. Include the resident's full name, GDC State ID number, full facility name, complete mailing address, and a valid return address.

Photos are permitted. Photos cannot contain nudity, sexually explicit content, gang-related imagery, weapons, or drug use.

Do not include prohibited content. Mail cannot contain threats, escape plans, gang symbols or codes, obscene material, contraband, or anything that threatens the safety or security of the facility.

Books and publications must come from an approved sender. They must be shipped directly from an approved publisher or major retailer, and some facilities restrict hardcover books or certain content.

Rejected mail is returned. Both the sender and the resident are notified if mail is rejected, and the resident may appeal the decision.
