Updated: Feb 23, 2022

For Immediate Release - February 14, 2022

Washington, DC - Bank of America has granted $20,000 to help Flikshop support incarcerated individuals in the Washington, D.C. metro area, providing over 2,000 families the opportunity to send positive vibes to their incarcerated loved ones this Valentine’s Day. Flikshop’s mission is to reduce recidivism through a unique communications platform that sends personalized postcards to incarcerated people around the country, particularly in the Washington, D.C. region. More than two million people are currently incarcerated in the United States and over 600,000 are returning to their communities after serving time in state or federal prison. The company sends thousands of postcards to incarcerated people each year.

“Bank of America is being thoughtful about supporting our community in a demonstrable way, and I’m excited about our first collaboration together. Our community wants to feel the love, and Valentine’s Day is the best time of the year to show it,” said Marcus Bullock, founder and CEO of Washington, D.C. startup Flikshop. “We all understand the value of sharing special moments with our friends and family, and our incarcerated neighbors need it the most.”

“Flikshop’s mission fits with our efforts to promote growth and opportunity in the communities we serve,” said Derrick N. Perkins, Bank of America market executive for Greater Washington, D.C. “Maintaining connections to family members can make a positive impact on the lives of incarcerated people and their loved ones.”

Bullock founded the company in 2012 after serving eight years in prison as a teenager and becoming passionate about justice reform. As a TED speaker and Aspen Institute Fellow, Bullock began collaborating with Fortune 100 companies to help increase their social impact strategy. Flikshop supports the mission of these companies by connecting them with their communities, such as families with incarcerated loved ones.

“Flikshop’s work to help families stay connected is making a positive impact on the lives of incarcerated people and their loved ones'', said Derrick N. Perkins, Bank of America market executive for Greater Washington, D.C.
